Sam Rayburn is at 154 .00 ft and has been coming up slowly. We have gotten rain from each of the fronts that have gone thru. Sam Rayburn is still low but things have begun to look better.

The lake is 10.40 ft low and we are seeing some of the sand bars and humps starting to go under water. Everything is starting to look different again with land marks changing every time the water level changes. Keep this in mind when you're running around and don’t take any chances. The back of the creeks have been muddy from the rains and the grass lines have been slowly disappearing. The grass you found last week may not be there next week.

Trophy Bass

The weather has been more on the warm side for the last few weeks and a few Trophy Bass have been caught. This weekend a 12.51 lb. was picked up in one of the tournaments as well as a 9.11 lb. fish. The weather has been warm and when the moon is full in February, we're looking for a great surge of fish to move in. This should bring on a few days of some of the best fishing on Sam Rayburn. Last year we had a couple of days that the fishing was unbelievable. It was all about timing and being in the right spot.

There are a lot of fish in the grass just waiting for everything to get just right. There aren't a lot of changes this time. Trying senko’s and wacky worms around the grass edges will pickup a few fish for those that love to fish slow. Light colors on sunny days and darker colors on cloudy days or in off-color water. For the guys that like something a little faster, the Lipless Crankbait is the number one bait talked about here on “Big Sam” and it’s Rayburn Red. That isn't the only color they will hit. If you’re not catching fish try a different color or different shade of Red. A Stanley Spinner Bait is a good way of covering a lot of water looking for some active fish and it can be a lot of fun. We have been catching a few fish deep but the bite has been very light and they don’t hold on long before they drop it. Long points and drops have been the best with a Carolina Rig or Stanley Football Jig worked very slowly.

One thing for sure you can’t catch a Trophy Bass sitting at home watching the boob tube. Get some new line on all the reels, get out, and get fishing. It’s nice to get away and enjoy a day on the lake. Take someone fishing this week.

Remember the Sharelunker Program entries started on October 1 and run thru April 30th. If you haven’t heard, it encourages anglers who catch a 13 - pound- plus largemouth bass to lend or donate it to the TPWD for spawning purposes. There are some great benefits doing this and one of them is that the angler receives a fiberglass replica of the bass. There is a 24- hour pager at 1-888-784-0600 Check out the Program rules at their site along with the Benefits. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/sharelunker/

Crappie; The Crappie fishing has been slow as they move up river but we are still catching a few. They should start bunching up and that’s when it will get good. Getting out on cool winter days, having fun with your friends and family is the best. Grab the kids and friends and come out to enjoy a day on the water. Everyone has loved the new pontoon with the shade, changing room and the port-o-potty. We can handle up to 8 anglers.

God Bless
